Description
Spring 2023, ARTPrenticeship prompted reflection on Hotel Herringbone, resulting in two murals and individual artworks at Gallery 507. The building merges past and present, symbolizing Waco's diverse history and promising future. It acknowledges the indigenous Wi’iko peoples and the Blackland Prairie before Downtown Waco's establishment. The murals depict mallow poppies against native grasses, representing the city's evolution and Mexican influence. They also honor Baylor University's role in Waco's growth. "Wildflowers I" portrays Texas wildflowers, symbolizing endurance and renewal, while "Wildflowers II" reflects Waco's future through portraiture. These artworks invite viewers to engage with the building's narrative and the town's layered history, illustrating the interconnectedness of culture, nature, and time.
