- Artist- Elizabeth Downey & Gabby Storey Hometown USA was designed to bring life, color, and joy to Austin Avenue, a major commute for many Wacoans and tourists. Our hope was to brighten up the ordinary, and create something beautiful for residents and visitors alike to enjoy as they pass through downtown. This mural also allowed emerging artists in Waco to experience the joy of painting, and feel empowered to make Waco more beautiful in the future! We wanted to create a design that would allow those with years of experience, or none at all, to come participate in the arts and discover a love for creating. This project is supported by an American Rescue Plan NEA grant from Creative Waco. With their support, Hometown USA celebrates a love of bright color and the Waco community with bold Texas spirit.
